This finely crafted 7.1-channel system features Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz to incorporate two extra Front Height channels. With the HT-S5500, you can enjoy a more realistic, three-dimensional movie or gaming experience over a standard 5.1 setup. The system’s powerful receiver hits all the right notes, featuring a discrete WRAT amplifier for clear, detailed sound; four HDMI® inputs and one output to handle 3D video and high-resolution audio; a USB port for direct digital iPod/iPhone connection; and an HDMI-enabled overlaid on-screen display for stress-free system navigation. Likewise, the two-way front and center speakers are fitted with high-quality drivers and tweeters, while an energy-efficient 120 W subwoofer fills out the bottom end. The system is easy to set up right out of the box, with Audyssey’s 2EQ room acoustic correction optimizing the sound for your listening space. Audio Return Channel and 3D Video via HDMI®
Four HDMI inputs on the HT-S5500’s receiver allow seamless integration of high-definition devices such as Blu-ray players, cable/satellite tuners, and gaming consoles. HDMI implementation on this receiver also supports an Audio Return Channel, allowing TV audio to be sent upstream to the A/V receiver. That means you can enjoy television programs in magnificent Onkyo sound. HDMI also supports 3D video and other popular high-resolution formats.
Direct Digital iPod/iPhone Connection for Cleaner Sound
The receiver’s front-panel USB port lets you play MP3 and AAC stored on an iPod/iPhone, and MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC audio files stored on a flash-memory device using the system’s own remote for track selection and playback. Your music will also sound much cleaner and clearer, as the audio signal is transported in digital form (rather than analog) via the direct digital connection.
Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz for a More Enveloping Sound Field
Pro Logic IIz creates a surround-sound experience from any movie or music source—even a stereo one. Pro Logic IIz also enables you to incorporate two “front height” speakers that carry ambient audio effects for games and movies.
